2016 Team Kiwi Kite Surfers Mongol Rally Challenge

A big thank you to Dazza and Leon as they tackle the Mongol Rally to raise funds for the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust and Cool Earth Society.  More about this in Dazza’s own words:

“I am undertaking the race with Leon Ford who worked with me on the Westpac Rescue Helicopters as a crewman for the last 15 years.  At this stage there is 240 teams who have entered (800 people) it starts in London on the 17th July and finishes 26th August in Ulan Ude in Russia, some 14,000kms depending on the route taken.

We are planning to travel through 18 countries as well as kite boarding in as many places along the way as possible – hence our team name of “Team Kiwi Kite Surfers”.

There are really only two rules – you are meant to do the race in a vehicle under 1200cc and raise a minimum of GBP1,000.00 for charity.  GPB500.00 is allocated to Cool Earth Charity (the race organizers official charity – which works alongside indigenous villages to halt rain forest destruction).  The remaining GPB500.00 or more goes to a charity nominated by us.  100% of donated funds will go to the two charities.

During our time working at Westpac Rescue Helicopters we carried out numerous inter hospital transfers often involving young children that required specialist treatment at Starship Hospital in Auckland.  Both Leon and I have witnessed the stress and financial issues placed on families who have had to leave their local town and job at a moments notice, in order to be with their loved ones throughout their duration of medical care.  Since having settled in Wanaka it would give me great pleasure to be able to give back to the community by supporting a local charity that is involved with young children.”

We are very grateful that they chose us as their charity and wish them the best of luck.
