One of the important pathways that referrals come to the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust is via our local schools.
Since 2009, our Wānaka-based charitable trust has supported families across the Upper Clutha region who are facing financial hardship due to the demands placed on them by their child’s health needs. Our role is to help ensure young people can access the care, assessments, and support they need to thrive.
Schools are often in a unique position to notice when a child or family may need an extra helping hand. Teachers, counsellors, learning support coordinators, and other school staff work closely with students every day, and can often identify challenges early. We are incredibly grateful for the care they show in supporting families and helping connect them with available assistance.
We received this lovely feedback from a Vice Principal at a local school:
“We feel very fortunate that the children and families from our school are able to seek support via the UCCMT. We have made several applications over the years, usually for support with Assessment reports for children we suspect have learning differences such as Dyslexia. These reports are very expensive to have completed but they do give valuable information and we appreciate the support for families who would otherwise not be able to have these completed for their children.”
Learning assessments and specialist reports can make a significant difference in helping children (and their families and teachers) better understand how they learn and what support they need to succeed. Unfortunately, these can often come with financial strain.
We are thankful to everyone who supports us, whether that’s by individual donations or otherwise, to ensure local children can access the care they need. If you’re interested in providing financial support, head to our Fundraising/Donations page for information.
