We are so lucky to have four Child-Centred Play Therapists here in Wānaka. Recently, we received wonderful feedback from one of the play therapists we support through funding, sharing the progress a local child has made through play therapy sessions.
Hearing about outcomes, like this one, reminds us exactly why this support matters.
They shared:
“Thank you for the funding you provided – this child has now completed 16 weeks of child-centred play therapy, and did an enormous amount of work in the playroom.
The child now comfortably verbalises their thoughts and feelings to their parent, and they’ve noticed where the child would have previously become overwhelmed, they are now self-regulating and able to explain what was happening themselves.
This is a lovely progression through the four therapeutic stages. Thank you again for supporting the family.”
For those who don’t know much about Play Therapy, it’s a therapeutic modality that provides children with a safe and supportive space to process emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy ways to communicate and regulate their feelings – all in an age-appropriate way. Often, the family is brought in for a few sessions, so they can learn tools to support their child, too.
For many families, getting this type of specialised help can be financially challenging, which is why community funding can make such an important difference.
We are grateful to all the play therapists we work with for the care and expertise they provide to local children and families. And thank you to everyone who helps make this possible, through your donations and support.
